If you’ve ever been charged unexpectedly in Fortnite, you’re not alone—and there’s still time to get your money back. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has reopened the refund claim window for eligible Fortnite players and their parents. This follows a major legal settlement with Epic Games, the creators of Fortnite, over deceptive billing practices that led to unwanted in-game purchases.
Let’s walk through what this means, who can apply, and how to get your refund before the July 9, 2025 deadline.

Why Is Epic Games Issuing Refunds?
Back in 2023, Epic Games agreed to pay a $245 million settlement after the FTC accused them of using deceptive techniques to get players—especially kids—to spend money in-game without fully realizing it. These were often purchases made by mistake or without parental consent.
In response, the FTC began sending refunds to affected players. The first round of payments went out in December 2024, totaling over $72 million. Now, a second round of refunds—amounting to more than $126 million—is being processed, and if you haven’t submitted your claim yet, now is your chance.
Who Can Apply for a Fortnite Refund?
You may be eligible if any one of the following applies:
- You were charged in-game currency (V-Bucks) for items you didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022
- Your child made unauthorized charges to your credit card between January 2017 and November 2018
- Your Fortnite account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you disputed charges with your card provider
This refund is available to both players and parents, and it covers a wide window of activity.
